At different points in our lives, we confuse our immediate adversities as our ultimate destination. We feel confined to where we are and are unable to recognize that something significantly better is waiting for us on the other side. It is essential to remember that our unique life struggles prepare us for what lies ahead and can strengthen us so we are better prepared to overcome future challenges. Life is all about change, but most importantly how well we adapt to those changes.
Similarly, a caterpillar, prior to becoming a butterfly, must undergo drastic life changes. There are no steps that can be skipped to make the process go faster. The work has to be done, and this is the same for individuals who seek personal growth and development. The butterfly teaches us to acknowledge the chaotic nature of life, to be mindful of where we started, and to constantly adjust our forecast. The butterfly also reminds us to be resilient and to remain calm so that things will eventually fall into place.
Think about your past struggles and all the adversities you have overcome. How did they change you? What lessons did you learn that enabled you to grow? The truth is, we learn more from our hardships than our successes. It is during these hardships, that you feel the call to become something more than you have always been; a call to let go of the old way of living. A call to transform yourself. This is the call of the butterfly. Your transformation begins when you answer the call of the Butterfly within. It is time to begin your own courageous journey towards a life that allows you to express yourself more fully and more authentically.
“When we give ourselves permission to prioritize our own wellbeing, everything in life falls into place" Brené Brown
In today's hustle culture landscape, where there is an extreme focus on productivity and success, it is not surprising that there is little regard for self care, or any sense of work-life balance. In recent years, this lifestyle has become increasingly popular as people aim to achieve their professional goals more rapidly. Despite its popularity, the hustle mindset has been correlated to a myriad of mental health issues, such as increased stress, anxiety, and depression. All of which can have detrimental effects on our physical and emotional well-being. Not surprisingly, this has also led us to feel overextended and burned out. When we are overextended, everything we know is good for us with regards to caring for our mental health, is often overlooked.
For many us, taking care of ourselves means taking care primarily of our body, like eating healthy and exercising. However, we are lacking an important component; caring for our mental health. At Priority Counseling, we believe that one way to work towards improving your mental health is to understand that it’s "okay" not to be "okay." It’s okay to feel frustrated, or anxious, and it’s okay to talk about those feelings with a professional.
The importance of prioritizing our mental health cannot be understated. We need to take care of ourselves if we want to be able to create the space we need to live a healthier existence. There are many benefits to obtaining mental health counseling. We will be less likely to experience symptoms of anxiety and depression, and we will feel significantly happier, both in our personal and professional lives.
That said, we understand that making yourself a priority is challenging. At Priority Counseling, You are Our Priority, and we are committed to collaborating with you and your family to help you to prioritize your most valuable possession; your mental health.
